Jaguar XKR Supercharger & Intake Service at TOP CONCEPT Philadelphia
This black Jaguar XKR rolled into our shop on New State Rd for an intake-side service on the supercharged 5.0L AJ133 V8. The owner had noticed reduced throttle response and a rough idle that wouldn’t smooth out — classic symptoms of restricted airflow or supercharger snout issues on this engine. The XKR’s intake system is one of the more complex assemblies in the lineup, sitting under the Eaton TVS supercharger, so this is a job that takes the full bay opened up.

Why the XKR’s Intake Side Needs Periodic Service
The supercharged AJ133 in the 2012–2014 XKR puts about 510 hp through a positive-displacement supercharger that sits on top of the engine, fed by intake runners that route around it. Over time, the throttle body, intake manifold, and supercharger snout all collect carbon, oil residue from the PCV system, and grime. Symptoms build slowly:
- Hesitation off the line as the supercharger tries to spool against restriction
- Lopey or rough idle once the engine is warm
- Audible whine pitch change from the supercharger snout
- Reduced throttle response in part-throttle cruising
- Stored codes for MAF or MAP sensor range

The Job: What We Did
- Diagnostic scan and live data — captured fuel trims, MAF readings, and supercharger pressure on a road test before opening anything.
- Hood up, intake exposed — pulled the engine cover and intake plumbing for clear access to the supercharger and manifold.
- Throttle body cleaning — carbon and oil film off the blade and bore, then the relearn procedure.
- Intake manifold inspection — checked seals, gaskets, and runner walls for build-up and damage.
- Supercharger snout check — confirmed nose bearing condition and oil level (the AJ133 supercharger has its own oil reservoir).
- Reassembly and verification — torqued to spec, cleared codes, and road-tested for normal idle quality and clean throttle response.

On the Lift
The XKR went up on our 2-post lift so we could verify the underside — exhaust hangers, oil pan, and any signs of leakage from the front of the engine. On a 10+ year old XKR, it’s worth checking everything while the car is in the air, even if the customer came in for a single complaint.

If You Drive a Jaguar XK / XKR / XF / XJ Supercharged
The same AJ133 supercharged V8 is shared across the 2010–2015 Jaguar XK, XKR, XKR-S, supercharged XF, and supercharged XJ. If your car shows any of the symptoms above — especially hesitation, rough idle, or a noticeable change in supercharger whine — bring it in. We’ve seen the full range of issues on this engine, and intake-side cleaning often resolves complaints that would otherwise lead a dealer to suggest a much bigger repair.
Pricing & Turnaround
A full intake/throttle body cleaning service on the XKR typically runs 3–4 hours of labor. Most cars we book in the morning are back on the road the same day. If we find a snout issue or a leaking gasket, we’ll quote the additional work before proceeding — no surprises.
