Mercedes-Benz AMG Supercharged V8 Service at TOP CONCEPT Philadelphia
The supercharged Mercedes-Benz AMG V8 — the M113K — is one of the great modern Mercedes engines. Found in the SL55 AMG, E55 AMG, CLS55 AMG, S55 AMG, and several other 2003–2006 era cars, it produces 469–510 hp from a 5.4-liter V8 with a Lysholm-style screw-type supercharger sitting between the cylinder banks. These engines need real expertise to service properly, and we see them regularly at our Northeast Philadelphia shop.

What the M113K AMG V8 Needs
- Supercharger oil change — the snout has its own oil reservoir, requires service every ~40k miles
- Supercharger coupler / isolator — failure makes a rattle on overrun, eventually destroys the snout bearing
- Spark plugs — every plug change requires removing intake plumbing; correct heat range is critical
- Coil packs — these get heat-soaked sitting on top of the engine
- Intercooler pump — supplies the air-to-water intercooler; failure means power loss and heat soak
- Engine mounts — torquey V8 + 20 years = collapsed mounts on most we see

Common Issues We Diagnose & Repair
- Loss of boost — boost leak test of the entire intercooler / charge pipe system
- Misfire codes — coils, plugs, or carbon-fouled valves on direct-injected variants
- Coolant leaks — the M113 has known weak points at the heater hose feed and water pump
- Valve cover gasket leaks — drips on the exhaust manifold and headers; fire risk if ignored
- Transmission service — the 722.6 5-speed paired with these engines needs proper Mercedes ATF and a real fluid + filter service every 60–80k miles
